Multiple injuries in Toronto shooting

Police, paramedics and firefighters have converged on the scene in the area of Danforth and Logan avenues, in Toronto's east end.

Witnesses say they heard more than a dozen shots ring out in what is a busy restaurant strip about 10pm local time (12.30pm AEST).

Up to nine people - possibly including a child - have been shot in the Canadian city of Toronto, with police confirming the gunman is now dead.

Paramedics have reportedly been told the gunman is no longer active.

A witness at the scene said multiple victims were injured on different blocks.

Toronto police tweeted saying he shooter has been killed.

One of the victims is believed to be a child, according to local news outlets but the victims' conditions are unknown.

Police are warning people to stay away from the area. Local media reports suggest that the shooting took place outside a restaurant.

Alek Minassian, 25, will face multiple murder and attempted murder charges in relation to that attack when he reappears in court on September 14.
