'Fortnite' Season 5 is here with some big changes

Season 5's week-one challenges are live in "Fortnite", and that means new ways to earn Battle Stars and experience.

Epic is also splitting the weekly challenges into two sections: Three challenges for free-to-play players and four extra challenges for players who have paid for a Battle Pass. You can also leap over obstacles with the All Terrain Kart, but doing so is truly a team affair, as players seated in the rear will have to lean back by holding S and releasing at the right time in order to gain air. The ATK can fit the entire squad, has the ability to attain speed boosts, and the roof can be used as a jump pad.

Fortnite is now offline on all platforms while it's getting patched and updated ready to support Season 5.

After posting about his awesome player-made superhero film earlier today, Sonny Evans sent us the replay system cinematic above that shows off Fortnite's newest locales. Of course, at time of writing there are 10 weeks of Season 5 left, and so there really is no rush to finish these challenges. Epic has brought some of them down to earth in the form of Rifts.

Late game Storm Circles are also changing slightly, allowing them to move around the zone rather than continually shrinking.

The hunting rifle's aim assist has been lowered to match that of other sniper rifles, and the suppressed SMG now features the same damage drop off profile as other SMGs.

As part of the 5.0 patch notes, Epic Games noted that Fortnite for Switch will now support motion or gyro controls for anyone wanting to use them.

As always with a Fortnite patch there are a bunch of fixes and performance improvements, with some changes too in weapon balancing.

Auto-fire has also been added as an option in the iOS game - you can toggle it on and off in the settings menu.
