What McConnell reportedly said about Trump's potential Supreme Court nominees

"An exceptional person will be chosen!" tweeted the President. Trump is poised to make his announcement at 9 p.m. ET. You can watch it LIVE on Fox8.com and FOX 8 News.

Trump's post came on the eve of his second lifetime appointment to the nine-member Supreme Court, one of the more powerful perks of office.

The group started advertising after Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement. For example, on the campaign trail, Trump promised his base that if he was elected he would appoint justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade.

And it's significant because his choice is expected to swing the court towards the right. So he has a very strong track record of smart and conservative jurisprudence.

"It's an historic decision".

Three Democrats who were invited but declined were Sens.

"They're good judges", Blunt said on NBC's "Meet the Press".

Is there a Supreme Court sign in these tea leaves?

The rollout will be modeled on the seamless presentation in January 2017 of the President's first Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, in what was undeniably one of his most successful and most well-managed moments as President.

"He could throw a dart on that list" and conservatives would be happy.

Raymond Kethledge of MI, who also has many high-profile supporters who see him as a positive alternative to the other three. As we all know, there's not a lot of love between the Bush family and President Trump.

Kethledge is one of four judges thought to be President Donald Trump's top contenders to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court.

Hardiman went to Notre Dame and Georgetown.

Kennedy's replacement also could be more willing to allow states to carry out executions and could support undoing earlier court holdings in the areas of racial discrimination in housing and the workplace.

But it is Kavanaugh who has been the focus of much of the lobbying, both for and against him. Senate Republicans hold only a 51-49 majority, leaving them hardly any margin if Democrats hold the line. Dianne Feinstein told Barrett, a Catholic, that "the dogma lives loudly within you", suggesting her faith would influence her judicial decisions, a statement that was roundly criticized. The court could also be called upon to render judgment on issues of personal significance to Trump and his administration including matters arising from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing Russia-related investigation and several civil lawsuits pending against Trump.

Still, for conservative activists, such distinctions between the potential nominees are quibbles.

Then McConnell and other Republicans reminded Trump of another political goal: the confirmation path of least resistance.

Democrats have little leverage as they try to halt the nomination - though the court's rightward lurch could stoke liberal turnout in the midterm elections in which the House of Representatives is in play.

Democrats girded for a fight as Trump kept up the suspense surrounding his shortlist of four possibles, all with solid right-wing credentials, ahead of the televised announcement to be made in prime time from the White House. Alaska GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski is in the spotlight for similar reasons. Gorsuch, Trump's first pick, is 50.

Leo said, however, that ultimately Trump would succeed at lining up conservative support for anyone he selected. I'm open to voting no.

The president has also said previously to reporters that he has narrowed the pool, saying on Thursday "of the four people, I have it down to three or two".

Trump is said to have apparently lost interest in Kethledge. The president also has been considering federal appeals court Judges Raymond Kethledge and Thomas Hardiman.

Any of the candidates on Trump's short list would probably move the court to the right. The selection has been described in the national media as monumental in cementing a conservative majority on the Supreme Court for a generation.
