Joe Jackson, patriarch of the musical Jackson family, dies at 89

Joe Jackson, the patriarch and band manager of the world famous Jackson family, which included King Of Pop Michael Jackson and his groundbreaking sister Janet, has died at age 89, according to a report from TMZ.

Joe passed away early Wednesday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Joe Jackson died on Wednesday, a Jackson family source confirmed to ET. Joe's wife, Katherine, and children and grandchildren were at his bedside in his last days.

In 2015, Jackson suffered a stroke, but despite bouts of ill health he continued to make appearances at celebrity events around the world.

When news of his hospitalization first broke, son Jermaine Jackson shared "he's very very frail, he doesn't have long".

Singer Usher performs under a giant photo of Michael Jackson with his parents Katherine and Joe Jackson at a memorial service for the music legend at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in July 2009.

On Sunday, Jackson tweeted, "I have seen more sunsets than I have left to see".

Michael then explained just how afraid he was of the man by stating: 'Like there's been times when he'd come to see me, I'd get sick, I'd start to regurgitate'.

Joe fathered 11 kids, 10 with his estranged wife Katherine, including Michael, Jermaine, Janet, and Tito.

Daughter La Toya Jackson honored her late father with a tweet.

'I love my father but I don't know him, ' responded Michael. Soon, he brought Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael together to become the Jackson 5. "I love you grandpa", the 26-year-old wrote alongside two black heart emojis. Though he didn't manage the act in that booking, the elder Jackson was seen hanging with his sons backstage.

However, Paris Jackson, Michael's daughter, tweeted her doubts that it had come from her grandfather: "This is a lovely tweet". Jackson also had a daughter out of wedlock. The result was a string of huge hits including "I Want You Back", "ABC", "I'll Be There" and the Michael Jackson solo release "Ben".

By the time they were adults, most of the Jackson siblings had dismissed him as their manager; Michael and Joseph's relationship was famously fractured. Though his children accused their controversial father of abuse, he was quoted as saying of Michael's accusations, "I never beat him". "It kept them out of jail and kept them right", he said. He made no apologies when I interviewed him in 2013: "'I did what I had to do to give them a better life'".
