As news of the third high profile suicide circulates, disturbing suicide statistics have been released about Kansas.

"It means that around 16 out of every 100,000 Americans will take their own life", the CDC study concluded, according to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

The report comes as the deaths of fashion designer Kate Spade and chef, writer and TV personality Anthony Bourdain this week, both of apparent suicide, have thrust the issue into the national spotlight.

In 2016, almost 45,000 Americans age 10 or older died by suicide. Suicide is preventable, and it's rarely caused by a single factor.

Suicide rates are also rising worldwide, with some one million people dying annually from suicide.

Rural states, she explained, are still recovering from economic downturns and residents tend to be more isolated, without access to proper care.
