New Gmail will be available to all starting next month

New Gmail is now available in an "Early Adopter Program" (EAP) with an option to try it out before the GA. You'll still have an opt-out choice for another four weeks, but after that it's lights out - you'll switch to the new version with no choice to revert to the old client.

Immediately transition their users to the new Gmail. However, the redesign will be pushed onto everyone eventually, and around eight weeks after being made available to all users, Google says anyone who hasn't transitioned will automatically be moved to the new design.

Gmail users may have waited for the new redesign.

Three months after July, around October, anyone who opted out of the new Gmail will be bumped across once again and the choice to opt out disappears. It also comes with new features such as email snoozing, nudging, and a new security feature called confidential mode, which allows a user to attach an expiry date to a sensitive email or revoke it entirely.

At the moment, the new Gmail is entirely optional.

Today, Google posted its schedule for rolling out the redesigned Gmail experience to G Suite users. However, come July, administrators will have to give users in their organization the ability to opt-in if they want the new design.

"This is the default setting", Gmail states. Just how soon it does this for regular Gmail users remains to be seen. During this four-week period, users will not have the option to opt in to the new Gmail. Approximately 12 weeks after that mystery July date, G Suite users will be pushed to the new Gmail with no option to opt out. Note that as of July 2017, there have already been a recorded 1.2 billion monthly active Gmail users, which means it could be impractical to have a very specific timeline for releasing the updates. It also integrated Calendar, Tasks, Keep, and Add-ons to enable use of these apps from within Gmail. This will open the Google Admin console.
