Donald Trump pays hospital visit to recovering first lady Melania

The First Lady's communication director released a more detailed statement this week, confirming "the procedure was successful and there were no complications".

The president left the White House late Tuesday afternoon.

"I want to start by saying that Melania is in the hospital doing really well", Trump said during the National Peace Officers' Memorial Service.

First Lady Melania Trump had surgery on Monday morning for what aides called a "benign" kidney condition.

Spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said in a statement that Melania Trump, 48, underwent an embolisation procedure to treat the kidney condition.

She said, however, the first lady would likely remain at Walter Reed for "the duration of the week" to recover.

The White House withheld additional information about the first lady's condition, citing her right to privacy. "Thank you for such love and support!" - wrote the President. It is common to stay overnight after the procedure to treat the pain.

In embolization, doctors insert a catheter as part of a procedure to purposely block a blood vessel and cut off the blood supply to the affected area.

The president visited her on Monday evening and tweeted that the procedure was "successful" and that his wife was in "good spirits".

After all, he is the President of the United States and has a jam-packed schedule. President Donald Trump took a helicopter to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to visit her and tweeted that his wife was in "good spirits".
