Rise in gas prices hits the breaks

The state average on Monday was 1 cent less than last week and 8 cents less than the national average, but Florida motorists are paying 35 cents more per gallon than this time past year, according to AAA.

It could be weeks before gas prices reflect the economic changes, but crude oil prices could increase, which would affect gasoline prices, said Shawn Steward, AAA analyst.

Knoxville- $2.52, down 1.3 cents per gallon from last week's $2.54.

Despite increasing throughout April, gas prices in Florida are holding steady and are under the national average.

President Trump announced yesterday that the U.S. would be re-imposing economic sanctions against Iran and withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear Deal. If the other 5 world powers that are part of the Iran deal stay involved it could means Iran's crude oil could essentially still be flowing globally.

If you're headed to the pump Wednesday, prepare to see higher gas prices. If the White House follows through canceling the deal and imposing new sanctions, it could remove as many as a million barrels a day from the global market. Florida's average fell one cent to $2.73 on Sunday, but that's up 35 cents compared to this time previous year.

At the pump, gasoline rates are now $2.81 for each gallon of unleaded nationwide, but there are already states with retail rates of $3 per gallon or higher.

With many people concerned about rising gas prices, we took those concerns to experts at AAA. Also pushing prices higher is the shift to a summer blend of gasoline that reduces smog.

While there is a lot of speculation, no one knows how high prices will go.

The average price for gas in central IL is on the rise.
