US VP Pence optimistic on NAFTA

During his meeting with Pence, Pena Nieto urged for the relationship between Mexico and the United States to be based on "mutual respect".

Vice President Mike Pence, attending an worldwide summit on Saturday, said he backs President Trump's assertion earlier in the day that the USA -led airstrikes this weekend in Syria resulted in "mission accomplished".

Pence attended the Summit when President Trump canceled his visit as he had to craft an official statement and take an action against the Syrian chemical attack.

The Syrian government has denied responsibility for the attack, while Russian Federation has pointed the finger at Israel and Britain.

"This is something we can not accept, the use of chemical weapons on civilians", Trudeau said, "and the global community needs to continue to stand extremely strongly as we continue to hold Syria accountable".

Pence, however, justified the attack by merely stating that the U.S. did not act alone, claiming that other leaders at the Latin American summit had both publicly and privately expressed support for the Syria bombardment. Trump's push was reported by Axios.

This was Pence's first media interaction after U.S. forces launched precision strikes against Assad regime targets associated with the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

The vice president also said that the topic of funding for U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed wall on the U.S. border with Mexico did not come up in Pence's meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.

Pence also met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to talk about the renegotiation of NAFTA.
