Israel commits 28 violations against journalists in March

Nine Gazans were killed and over 1,000 wounded in the day's clashes.

"I know the situation is very, very hard", Israeli farmer Daniel Rahamim said about economic hardship in Gaza, the Palestinian enclave ruled by Hamas, an Islamist group that advocates Israel's destruction.

He was covering protests to the east of Khan Younis in the south of Gaza when he was hit, according to the health ministry.

At the very least two Palestinians had been shot dead from weekend protests across the Gaza boundary. They say Yasser Murtaga was among two people to die overnight after being shot during Friday's demonstrations.

Hamza Abd al-Al, 20, was also shot and killed in the eastern boundary of central Gaza. I live in Gaza City. Friday's protest, however, was smaller in scale than that of last week, which was estimated to bring together about 30,000 Palestinians.

"IDF forces opened fire on the suspects", the statement said. Almost 500 were injured by live fire, the Gaza health ministry stated.

It is unclear if there were any casualties among the Palestinians.

"For weeks, we have been warning against coming close to the fence and calling on Gaza's residents not to obey the orders of the terror group Hamas and refrain from terror activities and other violent acts against Israel", said the Israeli army's statement.

Gaza's ministry of health "also reported that medical supplies needed for emergency and trauma management continue to deplete", and replacements from its counterpart in the West Bank "are yet to arrive", OCHA added.

Unemployment stands at 50 percent and there are recurrent shortages of power and medical supplies.

Thousands of protesters approached the border fence around Gaza for a second Friday in a row, burning tires and hurling stones at Israeli forces, who responded with tear gas and live ammunition.

Yariv Oppenheimer, a member of Peace Now, a non-government organisation in Israel, lamented the deaths and urged the Israeli army to exercise restraint.

Embedded in Adraee's tweet was an image that appeared to show Palestinian civilians, including a child, seen through binoculars or a scope.

The killings of demonstrators, including one journalist, elicited criticism from the United Nations, EU and elsewhere.

It is hardly the first time that the Trump administration has demonstrated its callous disregard for Palestinian lives.

At the same time, the European Union justified Israel's use of force "when defending its legitimate security interests", but urged that it commit violence against Palestinians with "proportionality".

Israel has no official death toll figures.

The numbers were down from the previous Friday, when tens of thousands approached the border in demonstrations that saw Israeli forces kill 19 Palestinians, making it the bloodiest day in Gaza since a 2014 war.
