Gregg Popovich Doesn't Know When Kawhi Leonard Will Return from Injury Rehab

BC-BKN-Spurs-Leonard, 361Popovich, Spurs unsure when Leonard will be cleared to playSpurs coach Gregg Popovich said Kawhi Leonard is continuing his injury rehabilitation in NY with his own team of doctors, but is unsure when the star forward and "his group" will clear him to play.

The latest one from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN revealed the 26-year-old returned to NY to continue his rehab.

The Kawhi Leonard-San Antonio Spurs saga has continued to unfold as the regular season slowly comes down to an end. "When he and his group feel he's ready, he'll be ready", Pop said, via the Associated Press.

Spurs staff has traveled to NY to meet with Leonard and stay abreast of his treatment and activity, sources said.

Leonard, who has struggled to overcome the tendinopathy in his right quadriceps since the preseason, sought a second opinion on his injury last month in NY.

It is Leonard's second extended trip to NY to consult with his own medical team, although Spurs staff has met with Leonard and are staying abreast of his treatment.

The handling of the injury has reportedly created tension in the Spurs' locker room, leading to a players-only meeting in March.

Led by LaMarcus Aldridge's best season with the team, San Antonio is now fourth in the tightly packed Western Conference.

"I've been through it", Tony Parker told reporters recently.

Leonard, 26, is a two-time All-NBA Defensive Player of the Year, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and MVP of the 2014 NBA Finals. Same kind of injury, but mine was 100 times worse.

The Spurs have only five remaining games before the playoffs start, which means Leonard is running out of time to return to the lineup. "You just try to stay positive".

"That's where he's doing his rehab", Popovich said. Leonard has been in the care of his own medical team since then, and no timetable has been set for his return.
