Saudi Arabia's crown prince meets Trump

Saudi Arabia's crown prince meets Trump

"Saudi Arabia is a very wealthy nation, and they're going to give the United States some of that wealth hopefully, in the form of jobs and in the form of the purchase of the finest military equipment anywhere in the world".

Trump and Prince Mohammed discussed an agreement past year for $200 billion worth of Saudi investments with the United States, including large purchases of USA military equipment.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised United States defence sales to Saudi Arabia as a boost to American jobs, even as lawmakers criticised Riyadh's role in the war in Yemen where a humanitarian crisis has unfolded. A lot of bad things are happening in Iran. President Barack Obama also angered the Saudis by negotiating a nuclear agreement with their regional rival, Iran.

Salman told the United Arab Emirates crown prince about the meeting with Kushner, bragging that he had Kushner "in his pocket", The Intercept reported, citing "a source who talks frequently to confidants of the Saudi and Emirati rulers".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell praised Saudi Arabia and on Tuesday blasted a resolution against USA involvement in the conflict in Yemen, which is due for a vote later in the day.

The Crown Prince said, "We are the oldest ally of America from the Middle East with more than 80 years of alliance and big interests - politically, economically, security".

"On Yemen, the president and the Crown Prince discussed the threat the Houthis pose to the region, assisted by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps", it said in a statement yesterday. "Iran has not been treating that part of the world, or the world itself, appropriately".

"We'll see what happens", Trump said.

Tasnim News then wrote, "Decrying the Saudi crown prince's "brazen attempt" in the USA trip to seize the throne, Qassemi said bin Salman had better find a way to erase the dark record of Saudi supports for terrorism instead of spending hundreds of billions of dollars of the Saudi nation's assets on American arms".

The son of King Salman and heir to the throne will also hold separate meetings with a long roster of influential USA officials, including the secretaries of defense, treasury and commerce, the Central Intelligence Agency chief and congressional leaders from both parties. Saudi Arabia signed billions of dollars of deals with US arms manufacturers and energy companies, including Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, General Electric, Exxon Mobil, Halliburton, Honeywell, McDermott International, Jacobs Engineering Group, Rowan Companies, National Oilwell Varco, Nabors Industries, Weatherford International, Schlumberger, and Dow Chemical.

Kushner has developed a close relationship with Salman, setting the stage for more communication between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. King Salman is to visit the United States later this year.

Qatar crisis erupted within days after Trump's Riyadh visit when Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahran and Egypt severed their ties with Doha, in early June, alleging it was supporting terrorist groups.
