The Greek Football Super League is Temporarily Suspended

Ivan Savvidis, a Russian oligarch and former member of parliament with Vladimir Putin's United Russia party, marched onto the pitch after his side, PAOK, seemed to have a last-minute Fernando Varela goal disallowed for offside.

After the non-starter against Olympiakos, PAOK was fined and deducted three points, the game was declared a 3-0 victory for Olympiakos and PAOK was due to have played its next two home games in front of empty stands. In the general chaos, there were rumours that the ref, Giorgos Kominis, had reversed his original decision and allowed the goal.

AEK now lead the Superleague - with PAOK in third - meaning Sunday's game was crucial in the Greek title race's likely outcome. Funnily enough, the warrant has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Savvidis was carrying a firearm but simply because of the pitch invasion.

This prompted Savvidis to attempt to confront the ref with his gun at the ready, accompanied by bodyguards who at various points tried to hold him back. "Anyone who comes on the pitch with a revolver is provocatively unacceptable". Please remember: PAOK's honor is in our hands and our strength lies not just in our unity, but also in our capability to control our emotions and refrain from actions that could be used against our team. "We have won a lot, but much more remains to be done", the minister said.

But no punishment has come down on the club president.

"More relevant announcements to be made shortly".

Such incident led the Greek FA to suspend the league indefinitely and Greek police issuing an arrest warrant for Savvidis.

'We will not allow anyone to divert us from our task, even if we have to, in consultation with UEFA, to take hard decisions'.

The incident was the latest blow to Greek soccer's reputation after years of tumult and scandal, which mainly related to claims of match fixing and referee intimidation.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said he was "determined" to enforce order in the country's oft-chaotic leading sport, which has repeatedly been marred by violence on and off the pitch.
