National Football League quarterback Wilson strikes out for Yankees

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson attended spring training with the New York Yankees on Monday.

Wilson was drafted by the Texas Rangers and participated in Spring Training practices for several years with the team but never appeared in a game. It came against left-hander Max Fried, who got the Seahawks quarterback to whiff on a high 93-mph fastball in a 2-2 count.

The decision to give Wilson an at-bat was made Thursday, and the Seahawks approved.

Briefly Former Heisman Trophy victor Tim Tebow, in his first spring training start with the Mets this year, struck out against reigning NL Cy Young Award victor Max Scherzer and then singled off Erick Fedde in a 2-1 loss to the Nationals in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He is expected to depart this weekend.

Don't expect Wilson to hang up his Seahawks jersey any time soon, but it appears that should he ever decide he's done with the National Football League, he'd at least have as good a shot at the majors as some other former quarterbacks. "I'll always remember when they announced my name".

Because we've spent time across the state, hanging with the Mets' Heisman Trophy victor, it's hard not to draw some comparisons between the two quarterbacks - one now piloting an National Football League team, the other past tense. "I'm definitely not sitting on the couch".

Friday morning here at the National Football League combine, Seahawks general manager was asked about the news Wilson was going to hit in a game for the first time since 2011. He reports in impeccable condition. "He's extraordinarily dedicated to doing everything right", Carroll said.

"I think that when it comes to this, a lot of guys know already, it's a successful organization already", he said. There's an aroma in the air, a type of feel when you come here and there's no mistaking that. "That's real", Wilson said. He wants to soak up the attitude of a franchise with a record 27 World Series titles.
