Neymar has 'small chance' of facing Real Madrid despite fractured foot

Paris Saint-Germain confirm that Neymar has suffered a severe ankle sprain and fractured metatarsal.

However, coach Unai Emery did suggest in his post-match news conference that he does not expect Neymar to miss that outing, with a serious injury ruled out following the forward's visit to hospital. "I think there's a small chance that he'll be ready for the match", added Emery.

"I do not like to see players get injured, I have never wished for any player to get injured".

The teams will meet March 6 in Paris, but Neymar, the French club's record signing and top attacking threat, nearly certainly won't play as PSG looks to overturn a 3-1 deficit against the two-time defending European champion.

"Neymar is the first who wants to play every game, for Real Madrid, he is very focused".

However, he was clear in his dismissal of a report published by Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte on Tuesday morning that claimed a decision had already been reached for Neymar to undergo an operation, and that he would be out until May.

"I believe Madrid will go through, they are in a strong position", Aguero told reporters after Sunday's League Cup final. "I talked to the doctors and we're yet to make a decision".

Neymar has played 29 games for the French club so far this season, scoring 29 goals and assisting a further 16 strikes.

There are even fears that the talented Brazilian attacker will have a race against time to be ready for the World Cup in Russian Federation in June.

The capital club lead the league standings by 14 points after winning 3-0 on Sunday night, with Neymar setting up a fine third goal for strike partner Edinson Cavani. "Until Paris Saint-Germain decides on his future in terms of training or so on we will continue to wait".

"We normally try to protect him by planning things ahead with him, but it was normal to have him play against Marseille, it was an important game", Emery said.

This is a major setback to PSG as they have it all to do in the second leg having lost 3-1 at the Bernabeu two weeks ago.
