Nassar case shows predatory power of secret settlements

A MI judge is sentencing disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar to between 40 and 125 years in prison for sexually abusing young girls he was supposed to be treating.

Two weeks ago, a MI county sentenced him to between 40 and 175 years in prison for multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct after more than a week of harrowing impact statements from Nassar survivors.

Nassar, 54, who worked at Michigan State University and at USA Gymnastics, the Indianapolis-based group that trains Olympians - sat motionless for his third criminal sentencing Monday.

The Eaton County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that people have recently come forward with complaints against Geddert. And act. Victims first reported that Larry Nassar had molested them during medical treatments two decades ago. In December, Nassar was sentenced to 60 years in prison on child pornography charges.

Monday's sentence brought an end to a three-day hearing featuring 65 emotional impact statements from girls and women who asserted abuse by Nassar, as well as some parents - including a father who tried to attack Nassar in court Friday before he was restrained by law enforcement officers.

"With that being said, I understand and acknowledge that it pales in comparison to the pain, trauma and emotions that you all are feeling", Nassar said, reading his statement.

The Nassar controversy has cast a shadow over Michigan State, with Michigan State president Lou Anna Simon resigning and athletic director Mark Hollis retiring.

Judge Janice Cunningham sentenced Nassar on Monday to between 40 and 125 years in prison.

Pedophile Team USA doctor Larry Nassar has been jailed for another 40 to 125 years. According to ESPN, he would not be eligible for parole until the year 2117.

"I felt like a weight was lifted off of me", Boyce said. Various high-ranking officials at USA Gymnastics and Michigan State have resigned in recent weeks as a result of the scandal.

"This was the first time I heard of Larry Nassar and his reputation", the former gymnast said in court Wednesday.

The testimonies come after more than 150 young women, including Thomashow, gave gut-wrenching accounts of Nassar's abuse in nearby Ingham County. Nassar's abuse mostly took place stateside in either MI or Texas, but also happened on the road, during Olympic events around the globe.

Both judges in the case became advocates for more than 200 former patients who accused Nassar of sexual assault and harassment.

Nassar first fell under Federal Bureau of Investigation scrutiny in July 2015, after abuse allegations were reported to the agency by three gymnasts.
