Quiksilver clothing CEO missing after boat found off French coast

On Tuesday, Agnes was first reported missing after his Mascaret III was found on the Atlantic Ocean beach at Hossegor, close to Capbreton his hometown which is located only 20 miles to the north of Biarritz.

Quiksilver, known for its surfwear, was founded in Australia but is now majority-owned by an American investment group, Oaktree Capital Management, and based in California.

In a statement, Boardriders said that 54-year-old Agnes had gone fishing on his "beloved" boat, as he often did in the mornings, and that he had not been heard from since.

Pierre had radioed in to the harbour master to say he was postponing his return due to bad fog.

The area is known for intense, sometimes unsafe waves that are prized by surfers.

The emergency was then escalated, with two speedboats and three helicopters scrambled to try and fined Mr Agnes, who was officially declared "Missing At Sea".

The local coast guard suspended the search on Tuesday night and resumed the operation Wednesday morning. Agnes served as the head of the company's France-based headquarters before taking control of the company in 2015.

His disappearance has caused great anguish in the surfing world.

Pro surfer Kelly Slater took to Instagram with a message about Agnes' disappearance, saying he was "praying for a miracle" during the search.

In a statement, the World Surf League noted the "deeply concerning reports" about Agnes' disappearance. Get your FREE trial or subscribe now. I also write and produce things, and am happy to be a part of the COED team.
