Brendan Cole 'in shock' after being axed from Strictly Come Dancing

Most little girls love to dance, but little Lucy Stewart is such a big Strictly Come Dancing fan that when she heard Brendan Cole had been axed from the show she decided she had to do something about it!

"They made an editorial decision not to have me back on the show", he said on ITV's Lorraine.

He added: 'I've had 15 incredible series on the show - they're a great team and it's still a bit hard to talk about. "I'm in shock. I got a phone call".

A BBC spokesperson later said: 'We'd like to thank Brendan for being part of the show since the beginning - victor of the first series - and for the contribution he has made to its success. I'm very proud of the whole show.

"I'm a fan of the show, I love the show, the show comes first", he continued.

Whether it was the rumours surrounding his relationship with Natasha Kaplinsky, his back chat to the judges or storming off set when the judges had torn into his celebrity partner - his personality and passion for what he did got the viewers talking just as much as his superb dancing. "We wish him all the very best for the future".

And Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who was paired with Brendan on the 2013 series, wrote: "Sad to hear @BrendanCole now not part of @bbcstrictly Not only a brilliant dancer/choreographer/teacher, it was wonderful to have someone with such experience of the show".

"It's an editorial decision. I'm quite emotional, a bit raw about it".

He said his recent "partners ... haven't been able to do what I've wanted to do. I would have preferred to have made the decision myself, but maybe I would never have made it". No disrespect to them.

A spokesman for Strictly thanked Cole for "being part of the show since the beginning" and contributing to its success.

Last year, Cole and his partner Hawkins became the third couple to leave the series. Cole "defended Hawkins when the judges - especially head judge Shirley Ballas - made comments about her performance", says the BBC.
