Audiobooks Are 100% COMING To Google Play

You won't need to make any commitments with Google Play and sign up for a monthly subscription.

Those who purchase audiobooks via the Google Play Store will be able to access them on Android, iOS, and the web. Users can pick up the audio book where they had left off on another device at night, for instance, and pick it up from that place in their vehicle using Android Auto next morning. Integration of Google Assistant is available only in English and for phones and smart speakers for now but will be expanding soon as well.

Google launching an audiobooks store widens the battle, which has also seen Google's YouTube unit stop supporting an Amazon product.

Audiobooks are now finally available on the Google Play Store - the fact that they weren't there to begin with is somewhat surprising. Just like Audible, which, of course, is owned by Amazon.

As of now, Google hasn't rolled out the app on Google Play Store which gives you error 404 message when you try opening the link in an advertisement displayed by the company. Audiobooks typically sell between $7 and $15, but Google is offering some pretty large discounts to pull new users in, plus 50 percent off your first purchase.

With the audiobook users will now be able to experience their favourite literature read out by simply instructing Google Assistant - "Ok Google, read my book".

Request a specific audiobook: OK, Google, read book title.

Check how much time is remaining: OK, Google, how much time is left.

Google Assistant and Cast support also available for Audiobooks.

Numerous features that Google announced this week with Audiobooks are already available with Audible as well.

Meanwhile, Audible is already a well-established player in the audiobooks space, with over 400,000 audio titles. That's part of the reason audiobooks have become so popular in recent years, as they allow you to absorb enthralling adventures and intricate mysteries while your hands are busy whipping up dinner or you're out for your brisk morning walk.
