Label bosses weren't convinced Camila Cabello's Havana was a hit

Camila Cabello's "Camila" is on Epic Records.

Camila - who has just released her self-titled debut album - parted ways with the group back in December 2016 to concentrate on her solo career. The last song by a solo female artist in a lead role to reach that particular milestone was Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" in 2013. Camila said she wanted to write songs for 5H but she was shot down and she truly wanted to still stay a part of the group while she worked on other solo projects. Along with taking home the coveted moon man for the best pop video the year thanks to their hit single "Down" featuring Gucci Mane, powerhouse girl group Fifth Harmony threw some serious shade at their former bandmate.

Cabello left in December 2016 and made a decision to follow her heart (which, at the time may or may not have been in Havana), believing that "if anyone wants to explore their individuality, it's not right for people to tell you no".

More news: What does Sessions' policy mean for the future of marijuana?

If the younger members of your family have started taking an unusually precocious interest in Cuban immigration and visa policy, there's a reason for that: Camila Cabello's "Havana" became the fluke hit of late 2017 and is looking to continue its run well into the año nuevo. (Any correlation to real people or events is undoubtedly coincidental.) As a listener, you may be grateful for those future growth markers, but also glad for tracks as unpretentiously chipper as "Into It", the saucy one of the bunch, or "Never Be the Same", which has been set as the next single. "I don't like holding onto the past, especially when it's stuff that, in my opinion, is just petty".

She explained, "I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life".

Album standout Into It is a delectable slice of Carly Rae Jepsen Lite, as Cabello playfully coos over punchy synths and hi-hats, beckoning, "I see a king-size bed in the corner, we should get into it". "But I just wasn't expecting for them to be there and I just got kind of weird, I was like, 'Why are you so weird, stop being weird'".
