EPL: Mane speaks on alleged fight with Salah

The striker, who now plays for Liverpool, was awarded for his 2017 performances with Liverpool as well as the Egyptian national team, which has qualified for the 2018 World Cup.

Salah, 25, beat Senegal and fellow club-mate Sadio Mane and Gabon worldwide Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to win the prestigious prize to honor African men and women who have excelled and contributed to the development of football in and outside the continent.

Salah scored last-minute victor from the penalty spot to seal Egypt's place in next summer's World Cup as his national team reached the major tournament for the first time since 1990.

After 26 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, Salah has scored 23 goals and registered eight assists.

"It was very hard to explain the moment, to qualify to the World Cup after 28 years", he said after the ceremony in Ghana. Salah then became joint top-scorer in the final round of qualifiers as Egypt reached the World Cup for the first time since 1990.

Salah dedicated the award to the children of Africa and Egypt, urging them to follow their dreams and belief.

"This award is a big award for me ... it's a special moment for me in my career".

Mohamed Salah topped off an incredible 2017 by being crowned the African Player of the Year on Thursday evening.

The Egyptian succeeds Algerian Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City as holder of the most prized CAF individual award.

The Liverpool winger, who was on Wednesday evening named the 2017 CAF African Player of the Year, has enjoyed an outstanding first season at Anfield.

Salah was the central figure for Egypt as they finished runners-up at the Africa Cup of Nations.

An emotional and proud Salah spared a few words and dedicated his award to the kids in Africa.

"We are happy to play together".
