North Korea accidentally hit one of its own cities with missile

A ballistic missile launched by North Korea previous year failed in flight and crashed back to the ground, it has been reported.

The Diplomat's Ankit Panda and David Schmerler, of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, cited a USA government source as saying the missile failed a minute into flight and never went higher than 70 kilometers.

A USA government source told The Diplomat that the missile's initial stage engines failed after about one minute of powered flight, leading to a "catastrophic failure".

Using Google Earth and satellite images, The Diplomat said it found the errant missile struck a complex of facilities-either agricultural or industrial-that are adjacent to a residential area.

"It's impossible to verify if the incident caused any loss of life and, given the time of day the test occurred and the location of the impact, it may be likely that few, if any, casualties resulted from the incident", The Diplomat pointed out.

A new report reveals a missile fired by North Korean military a year ago actually hit one of the nation's own cities.

There have been no reported deaths as a result of the apparent stray rocket, but the damaged building is close to heavily populated areas.

Due to the engine failure it was highly likely there was a large explosion when the missile crashed into the ground, with significant damage to buildings.

However, the cold relationship between South Korea and the North showed signs of thawing in the beginning of 2018.

One of North Korea's failed missile tests in 2017 accidentally bombed one of its own towns, according to a new report.

The unnamed source said the missile may have been destined to go down in the Sea of Japan, near the Russian coast, where its first Hwasong-12 test rocket landed in May 2017.

'And we want all of the other countries - this is not just a United States threat, this is a global threat - which is why we're calling on everybody to step up and do more, and we're going to continue working with a lot of different leaders and other countries to help do that, and we're going to keep all of our options on the table'. The rogue nation's leader, Kim Jong Un, claims to have the "nuclear button" on his desk at all times.

Kim Jong Un conducted 16 missile tests since February 2017, firing 23 various missiles. After all, it's North Korea, where the media is state-controlled.
