Palestinian teen filmed slapping and kicking Israeli soldiers is arrested

Tamimi and her family have always been targets of the Israeli authorities and the animosity towards them grew even further after numerous videos of the fearless young activist standing up to IOF soldiers went viral on social media, amassing millions of views.

Soon, more video surfaced which showed Ahed and three other women and girls shouting at and pushing the soldiers.

The mother of a Palestinian teenage girl, who was detained from her home by Israeli forces before dawn on Tuesday, was reportedly detained at an Israeli police station when seeking information about her daughter's whereabouts.

According to Bassem, at least 30 soldiers were involved in the raid and Ahed's arrest.

The goal: to win back some of the army's masculinity, wounded a few days after a video surfaced of the rebellious girl attempting push soldiers out of her house - cursing and shoving them, even kicking and slapping.

The Tamimi family rushes an Israeli soldier pinning a Mohammed Tamimi, then 12, during a demonstration in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah, August 28, 2015.

Al-Nabi Saleh is a village of 600 Palestinian inhabitants surrounded by the illegal Halamish settlement.

The Palestinians struggle against the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, territories that Israel seized in the 1967 and has held ever since, despite global protest.

"We can not live normally under occupation", Bassem said.

The primary instigator has been identified as 17-year-old Ahed Tamimi, who has in recent years made a name for herself in multiple videotaped provocations of Israeli soldiers.

Ahed has been praised by activists and the worldwide community for her courage during protests in Nabi Saleh, which have been held every Friday in the village for years.

Tamimi is from a well-known activist family that lives in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, and many Palestinians view her as a hero.

However, Manal said security forces specifically "target children" during protests in Nabi Saleh. Israeli forces used every possible means to suppress the protests, often by stopping the demonstrators while they were still within their village. Both her uncles were martyrs.

On Friday, 15-year-old Mohammed Fadl al-Tamimi was wounded by a bullet that penetrated his face and settled under his brain. And they continue to pay the price for their refusal to accept the status quo, for their steadfast challenge to mechanisms of the occupation. But it also gave the Palestinians a new heroine, one more in a long history of women who for decades have struggled unceasingly for their freedom.
