Flynn said Russian Federation sanctions would be 'ripped up' - congressman

Within minutes of Trump's inauguration in January, Flynn informed his former associate that the plan to work with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East was "good to go", because Flynn was ensuring the sanctions would be "ripped up" as one of Trump's first orders of business.

That's the account a whistleblower told Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which has been investigating Flynn's role in the project.

Flynn attempted to "manipulate the course of global nuclear policy for the financial gain of his business partners", and assured a business partner the USA would relax sanctions once he worked in Trump's White House, Cummings wrote to House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-South Carolina.

In the letter to Rep. Trey Gowdy, the panel's GOP chairman, Cummings demanded that Gowdy subpoena documents on the nuclear power plan from the White House, Flynn, Copson, their partners and associates, Reuters reported. He called for a bipartisan investigation.

A spokesperson for Gowdy's office did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday, nor did the lawyer who represents ACU Strategic Partners.

This whistleblower has reportedly claimed that during an inauguration day conversation with Alex Copson (the aforementioned associate), Copson said this was "the start of something I've been working on for years, and we are good to go".

Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn told a former business associate "within minutes" of President Donald Trump being sworn in on Inauguration Day that economic sanctions against Russian Federation would be "ripped up" once Trump gets into office, according to a whistleblower. That agreement made no mention of Flynn's consulting work for companies pursuing a controversial nuclear power project in the Middle East that involved Russian participation.

Now, new allegations are coming from a whistleblower who says he met Copson at a Washington, DC, event on Inauguration Day - and that Copson had some very interesting things to say about the project.

The allegations posed new troubles for Flynn, who left the White House last February after barely three weeks and pleaded guilty last week to lying to FBI investigators in the Russian Federation election meddling probe.

Copson allegedly told those around him that "Mike [Flynn] has been putting everything in place for us".

Copson did not respond to phone and email messages from ABC News left at his home and with his attorney. Cummings said he believes Republican leaders of the Oversight Committee should approve a subpoena so they can "pursue these allegations against General Flynn in a responsible way".

Cummings wrote that Mueller's office had asked him to hold back the information until "they completed certain investigative steps" - which apparently have now been concluded.

Cummings said the whistleblower, whom he did not identify in the letter, "fears retaliation", but would speak with Gowdy if he agrees to protect the whistleblower's identity.
