Top FBI agent removed from Mueller's team over anti-Trump texts

A top FBI agent at the center of both the Clinton email and Trump-Russia investigations was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team for exchanging derogatory text messages about the president with a colleague.

According to a New York Times report, special counsel Robert Mueller removed a senior-level FBI agent from the investigation team due to text messages that he sent against US President Donald Trump.

He was reassigned last summer to the FBI's human resources department after the Justice Department's inspector general began looking into the text messages, the papers said, quoting several unidentified people familiar with the matter.

Clinton and her supporters say Comey's moves in October cost her the 2016 election, and Trump and his Republican allies have used it to justify Comey's firing - the event that ultimately led to Mueller being appointed as special counsel.

The precise content of Strzok's text messages is unknown, and it remains unclear whether Horowitz will make them public.

Until now, Nunes said, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice have failed to sufficiently comply with an August 24 committee subpoena, including by refusing repeated demands "for an explanation of Peter Strzok's dismissal from the Mueller probe".

Strzok also worked on the probe into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state.

The Office of the Inspector General is also reviewing Strzok's role in the Clinton email investigation, according to sources cited by Fox News. "Just more Fake News covering another Comey lie!"

One of the only times I've ever seen my father, a career military man and Vietnam veteran, express genuine concern over the direction of our country was in the wake of the FBI's fall from grace under James Comey.

Mueller is overseeing the FBI's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and possible coordination with the Trump campaign.

Nunes said April 6 he was stepping back amid criticism of his handling of classified material, reportedly obtained from White House officials, that he said showed officials of former President Barack Obama's administration "unmasked" the identities of people close to Mr. Trump who were mentioned in legal surveillance of foreign individuals.
