Congress Declares US Military Support of Saudi Arabia in Yemen War Unauthorized

"This halted the only flights at Sanaa airport - those of the United Nations and other worldwide organisations delivering humanitarian assistance", the rebel-run General Authority for Civil Aviation said.

World Health Organization officials say more than 8,600 people have died since fighting broke out in Yemen in March 2015.

The United Nations on Tuesday dismissed a Saudi demand that tighter inspections be put in place at Yemen´s rebel-held Hodeida port before a devastating blockade is lifted.

Over two years ago, Houthi fighters dislodged the Saudi-allied president Abd-Rabbu Mansur Hadi, who later fled to Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi-led coalition hopes that will prevent "the smuggling of weapons, ammunitions, missile parts and cash that are regularly being supplied by Iran and Iranian accomplices to the Houthi rebels", the statement said.

The fiery comments came even as Saudi Arabia said on Monday that it will begin reopening airports and seaports in Yemen — those in areas not controlled by the rebels — after days of closing them over a rebel ballistic missile attack on Riyadh.

Zarif's plan calls for "a ceasefire and an immediate end to all military operations, unimpeded urgent humanitarian and medical assistance to the people of Yemen, resumption of Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned national dialogue, with the participation of the representatives of all political parties and social groups, and establishment of an inclusive national unity government".

He also said that the more the blockade tightens, the more the Houthis will develop their abilities to "respond to the assault of the enemy". In a statement, Saudi's permanent United Nations representative said he confirms that "steps are being taken by the [Saudi-led] Coalition in full consultation and agreement with the Government of Yemen, to start the process of reopening airports and seaports in Yemen to allow for the safe transfer of humanitarian actors and humanitarian and commercial shipments".

Saudi Arabia announced it shut down all ports after a November 4 ballistic missile attack on Riyadh near its global airport by the Shiite rebels known as Houthis. The Houthis have denied that.

Those ports are in Yemeni cities of Aden, Mocha and Mukalla.

Saudi Arabia and the US have accused Iran of supplying the ballistic missile used in that attack.
