Jeff Sessions to be grilled by Congress over latest Russian Federation revelations

Both panels are investigating various aspects of Russian interference in the presidential campaign.

Manafort, who ran Trump's presidential campaign for several months past year, and associate Richard Gates pleaded not guilty last week to a 12-count indictment by a federal grand jury.

Page's disclosure increases the pressure on Sessions ahead of a hearing scheduled for next week before the House Judiciary Committee.

Another Trump foreign affairs adviser, George Papadopoulos, last month pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators about his contacts with Russian interests and his communications with Trump campaign aides.Papadopoulos has been cooperating with investigators in their months-long probe.

The letter was signed by every Democratic member of the committee.

He also said he told Sam Clovis, a former co-chairman and policy adviser to Trump's campaign, about his trip.

Page wrote in a July 2016 email to Trump campaign aides that Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich "expressed strong support for Mr. Trump and a desire to work together toward devising better solutions in response to a vast range of current global problems", according to a transcript of more than six hours of testimony Page gave last week before a House of Representatives committee investigating Russian interference in the US election.

Page addressed some of the questions about those trips in more than seven hours of testimony last week to the House committee. But according to the transcript, he told lawmakers that he did indeed speak with members of the Russian government and state-owned businesses, including Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

When asked if he had a private meeting with Dvorkovich on that second trip, Page replied: "We did - he stopped by a dinner I went to in December with people from the university".

"Donald Trump's approval rating stands at its lowest point in CNN's polling as concerns about contacts between Trump's presidential campaign and Russian operatives have grown sharply in the wake of the first indictments from the special counsel investigating Russian meddling in the USA election".

Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House's Intelligence committee, said Page's testimony showed that his denials of formal meetings with senior Russian officials were inaccurate.

Page also acknowledged to members of Congress that he has had at least four meetings with the FBI related to the Russian Federation investigation. Forty-four percent say they are "very concerned" about those reports, up from just 27% saying so in July.

Schiff said it's impossible to say whether Russian interference in the election almost a year ago is the reason Republican Donald Trump won the presidency over Democrat Hillary Clinton. He denies any wrongdoing and says that he has been the subject of a witch hunt.
