Indianapolis Colts officially shut down Andrew Luck for season

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Thursday that the team has placed star quarterback Andrew Luck on injured reserve, as he suffered a setback a few weeks ago in his throwing program and had since been shut down from practicing.

The Colts went into the 2012 offseason with the luxury of knowing they could cut ties with Manning because Luck would be available with the No. 1-overall pick.

Colts owner Jim Irsay kept spinning that Luck might have a chance to play 10 days before the season-opener against the Los Angeles Rams, even when his QB wasn't practicing. "Career-ending is putting him out on the field before he's ready to play - that is where you should be concerned".

Jacoby Brissett, who the Colts traded for before the start of the season, will be the team's starter for the rest of the season.

One thing that Ballard stressed is that he never tried to mislead the media or the fans by the team ultimately placing Luck on injured reserve before ever playing a regular season snap, as the team was at one point genuinely hopeful that he could return at some point in 2017. Luck has battled injuries and disappointing play.

Ballard said Luck will work out in multiple locations and will use a different routine to help him regain his strength.

I believe Ballard when he says no doctors have called Luck's issue career-ending. He also seems to have had the injury for a long time, two years.

Four quarterbacks worked out Tuesday at the team's complex. Luck was sacked 56 times in the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Still, we don't have the information to make a call on whether the Colts need to proceed as if they have a future question about who'll be their starting quarterback. The job is his to roll with, knowing Luck isn't walking back into the huddle until next season.

Luck missed two games after hurting his right shoulder at Tennessee on September 27, 2015, returned for four and then missed the last seven with a lacerated kidney.

Luck thought in April he would be ready to go, and I can not see him publically stating that just to help the organization from a PR standpoint. He'll now have missed 26 games in the last three seasons. "He's a difference-maker. He's one of the best quarterbacks in the league, so he's frustrated".
