India vs New Zealand: Pitch curator filmed passing on information to 'bookies'

Pandurang Salgaonkar, the curator at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) ground in Pune has been suspended after being accused of agreeing to tamper with the pitch upon request of reporters disguised as bookies during a sting operation. "The BCCI observer is also sitting around", Salgaoncar said.

An inquiry has been initiated by the MCA and the BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit has been asked to submit a report of the incident. According to the pitch curator, a pitch has been prepared on which the score of 337 can be easily made. But before we have our urgent meeting, in the capacity of the MCA President, I have taken Mr. Salgaonkar under suspension with immediate effect, and all his work has been withdrawn, including his basic membership with the MCA has been withdrawn. It was the same pitch which Salgaonkar had worked on with assistance from BCCI-certified curator Ramesh Mhamunkar, who is employed by the Mumbai Cricket Association to look after the Wankhede Stadium.

The ICC held a pitch inspection in Pune following the scandal but declared the pitch fit for the match and gave a go-ahead to the second ODI. Salgaonkar is a former fast bowler bowler who 63 first-class matches taking 214 wickets at 26.70 and in five List A games he took 4 wickets. He has also served as chief selector of the Maharashtra Ranji Trophy team. The pitch curator told them the reporters that the pitch could be customised as per their demands.

This is the same pitch which was in the limelight during the India-Australia Test match in February this year. "At BCCI, we have zero tolerance towards any such activity". "I am not yet aware of the full thing", BCCI Acting Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary was quoted as saying. "Rest assured, if anyone found guilty, strict action will be taken", he said.
