Brother of Stephen Paddock, Bruce, arrested for child porn

Bruce Paddock, the brother of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, was arrested on child porn charges Wednesday.

Paddock was reportedly living at the assisted living facility.

Paddock bought software created to wipe hard drives clean, but without the hard drive in hand it would be impossible to tell if he ever ran the program, a source told ABC. In a statement, the Los Angeles Police said their investigation began when evidence was found inside a business where Bruce Paddock had been squatting after he was evicted.

Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd of 22,000 concertgoers from his 32nd-floor holes window in the heart of Las Vegas on October 1.

The absence of the device, paired with information from a source claiming that Paddock purchased software created to erase files from a hard drive, is puzzling investigators. Authorities have also tried to discern a motive from his travel habits, health, and finances but to no avail. Paddock was accused of having more than 600 pornographic images of children or youths, including 10 or more images of pre-pubescent children, said an arrest warrant.

The shooter's finances have largely been cleared, ABC reports.

But Paddock isn't the first to destroy or hide digital evidence. "It wasn't suicide by cop since he killed himself", he said at the time. Paddock had been under investigation long before his brother Stephen killed 58 people, but police weren't able to figure out where Bruce was until recently. Authorities never found either item.

The 2008 Northern Illinois shooter, Steven Kazmierczak, removed the SIM card from his phone and the hard drive from his laptop, and neither was recovered.
