Korean lawmaker says North Korea hacked war plans

"South Korean and USA air forces showed off the allies' resolve for strong retaliation against North Korea's nuclear and missile threats", the JCS said in a statement carried by local news agency Yonhap.

The Guam-based B-1B Lancers were joined by South Korean fighter jets and conducted drills in the seas off both sides of the peninsula, according to South Korea's military.

There are also serious concerns about North Korea's cyberwarfare capabilities, but the US has been carrying out operations of its own to counter North Korean cyber operations in Northeast Asia and elsewhere.

This comes after US President Donald Trump last night discussed a "range of options" with his national security team to respond to North Korea's recent nuclear tests.

The statement by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff also revealed that the two bombers carried out air-to-ground missile drills in waters off the east coast of South Korea, then flew over the South to waters between it and China to repeat the drill.

Private electric companies in the United States were targeted by suspected North Korean hackers last month. "What I am going to tell you is that the [South Korea]-US alliance, that bilateral entity, is there to deal with those types of situation and safeguard against them".

Suspicions that Pyongyang may have stolen intel from South Korea will do nothing to de-escalate tensions with the USA, which are already at a 50-year high following the North's rocket tests.

"There is an urgent need for the military to change and update parts that were stolen by North Korea", Lee said.

Rhee Cheol-hee, a member of the ruling Democratic Party who also sits on a defense panel, told the media outlet that about 80 percent what the classified documents contained have yet to be identified, but they included contingency plans for South Korea's special forces, reports to allied commanders and information on key military installations and power plants in the South.

Seoul says North Korea has repeatedly staged cyberattacks on South Korean business and government websites.
