United States allies accuse Russian Federation of strikes in Syria

Ryabkov said that US claims of being in Syria principally to battle the jihadist group were not equal to its actions on the ground, in what he called a "two-faced" Syria policy.

Asapov, RT reported, was described as one of the senior Russian military advisers in Syria.

The Russian ministry said that Lt. Gen. Valery Asapov 'was at a command post of Syrian troops, assisting the Syrian commanders in the operation for the liberation of the city of Deir ez-Zor'.

His death was "the price paid in blood" for US hypocrisy, Russia's deputy foreign minister said.

Russian Federation and the USA -led coalition are backing separate offensives against IS with both advancing in oil-rich Deir al-Zour.

US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces have been hit by Russian bombing and mortar fire at a recently captured gas plant in eastern Syria, the mostly Kurdish militia said on Monday.

Another SDF spokesman, Brigadier General Talal Sillo, said the fighting in the area left 65 ISIL fighters dead while more than 100 gunmen surrendered.

Russian airstrikes have backed Syrian government forces advancing on Deir ez-Zor from the west, while SDF, backed by USA -led coalition airstrikes, has been moving in from east of the Euphrates River.

Russian Federation blames US "hypocrisy" on the death of one of its generals during an ISIS attack over the weekend.

The SDF and Syrian troops with Russian air power have converged on IS in separate offensives in Deir Ezzor.

The convergence of the two rival offensives has increased tensions in Deir al-Zor. The two sides are racing to defeat the militants and snap up oil and gas fields, fueling fears of conflict between the two groups and their superpower sponsors.

In a sign of the high stakes as both forces come in increasing proximity, USA and Russian generals held a face-to-face meeting this week in an effort to avoid accidental clashes, US military officials said on Thursday. It says two people were wounded Sunday.

Previously, the U.S-led coalition had downed Iranian drones in the area, considering them hostile because they dropped ammunition near a base where US troops operated alongside allied Syrian opposition fighters.

ISIS overran large parts of Deir Ezzor province, including its oilfields, in mid-2014 as it seized swathes of land in Syria and neighboring Iraq.
