Brexit: Should Boris Johnson resign?

Boris Johnson has insisted he is not resigning from the cabinet, amid reports he is prepared to walk out over Theresa May's Brexit plan.

It was reported by the Telegraph, that Johnson could even resign before the weekend if May signalled that she will sign the United Kingdom up for paying access to the single market permanently, in an arrangement similar to remaining in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Johnson told reporters in NY that he would not be resigning, saying: "We are working together, that is the key thing, to make sure that Britain can take advantage of the opportunities of Brexit".

The announcement will be formally made by May on Friday, during her highly-anticipated Brexit speech in the Italian city of Florence, the FT said.

"Where our lawyers say we are on the hook for stuff, then we are going to have to pay".

The Foreign Secretary is set to share a plane from NY to London with Mrs May tonight, in a deliberate attempt to put on a show of unity after the blazing row.

The foreign secretary - who appears to have the backing of other pro-leave ministers, including Michael Gove - was unhappy about some of the wording in early drafts of the speech.

"So I contributed a small article to the pages of the Telegraph, and now everyone who had previously accused me of saying too little are now saying I am saying rather too much", he said.

Mr Johnson spoke to TV cameras in NY after bumping into them at a hotel lift as he returned from a jog.

The PM's spokesman said that Mrs May had met Ivanka at the G20 summit in Germany in July, when Ms Trump expressed an interest in giving her backing to the campaign against modern slavery which the Prime Minister has spearheaded.

Several European leaders, including Angela Merkel, have been contacted by May's top EU adviser Oliver Robbins so they can be reassured that the prime minister's speech in Florence will contain the financial offer, the Financial Times newspaper reported.

"We're working together, and the key thing is to make sure Britain can take advantage of the opportunities that Brexit provides".

The Foreign Secretary denied claims of a split, saying: "We are a nest of singing birds".

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has been making "strange statements" and is "completely out of the loop" on Brexit, according to Phil Hogan, the European agriculture commissioner. May was forced to fight off claims that Mr. Johnson had become a "back-seat driver" in her cabinet.

The foreign secretary said: "Not me, guv".
