Pakistan firing kills BSF trooper in J&K

At least three civilians were injured when Pakistani shells landed in Arnia belt, a Jammu town that lives very close to the global border.

Pakistan Rangers started unprovoked firing and shelling on Indian positions and civilian areas in Arnia sector around 1 am today.

But, an Arnia police station officer said Pakistan resorted to indiscriminate firing with small and heavy weapons at Sai, Treva and Jabowal forward posts. "BSF troopers are retaliating strongly and effectively", BSF sources said.

BSF jawan, Brijendra Bahadur Singh, was hit by a bullet at his abdomen, who later succumbed during evacuation process.

Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Rajeev Ranjan, said that a medical shop, several houses, and other structures were damaged partially in the shelling.

Villages nearby the global border in Arnia sub-sector is panic stricken.

Incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops have increased sharply this year.
