Irma made landfall on the Florida Keys as a Category 4 hurricane Sunday, but the full extent of the damage there is still unknown. The downgraded storm has killed at least one person in Georgia on Monday, the Associated Press reports.

Some Florida utilities, including FPL, warned customers it could take weeks to restore power in the hardest hit areas because infrastructure systems in some of those places will need to be rebuilt. Southbound US Route 1 - the only road connecting the Keys - is closed, Florida Keys spokesman Andy Newman said. There were 166,598 customers without power across the state of Georgia, according to Georgia Power.

No deaths in Florida were immediately linked to the storm.

Some residents refused to follow the evacuation order and were out on the streets Monday, walking dogs and evaluating the damage to their town.

Scott said he spoke with Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and assured him that resources were being deployed.
