Slovakia respects European Union court ruling on refugees, position unchanged - PM

In its ruling Wednesday, the court rejected all the arguments brought by Hungary and Slovakia. "That mechanism actually contributes to enabling Greece and Italy to deal with the impact of the 2015 migration crisis and is proportionate", the judges said in their ruling.

The ECJ's decision responded to a complaint by Hungary and Slovakia over the legality of a September 2015 Council decision to distribute asylum seekers from Greece and Italy across the bloc, based on quotas established by the European Union commission.

He added that Budapest will take all legal action possible to prevent relocating people into Hungary "against the will of the Hungarian people".

The EU's top court has rejected a challenge by Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia to a migrant relocation deal drawn up at the peak of the crisis in 2015.

Hungary and Poland voted against the plan and have refused to take part, while so far Slovakia has accepted only a handful of refugees from Greece.

Beata Szydlo, the Polish prime minister, said: 'We expected this decision.

In Germany, where Chancellor Angela Merkel is fighting for re-election against opponents who criticise her for taking in over a million migrants at the height of the drama, the interior minister threatened legal action against countries which fail to take in their allotted share of Syrian and other refugees. Slovakia and the Czech Republic have only taken in a handful.

Earlier in August, according to the website of the Hungarian government, Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen said that Hungary is willing to offer asylum to Aideen Strandsson, a Christian convert who is facing deportation to Iran after being denied asylum in Sweden.

Fico says the 2015 plan to relocate 160,000 refugees from Greece and Italy over two years was a temporary solution that will cease to be effective on Sept 26.

Politics has raped European law and values. Under the policy, Hungary is required to take in 1,294 refugees and Slovakia 902.

Lead parliamentarian on the scheme Ska Keller said Wednesday that the ruling means "there is no excuse" for European Union states not to share refugees from Greece and Italy as they have committed to do.

This is largely a result of a controversial deal the European Union signed with Turkey in March past year to send back migrants in return for billions of euros in aid and for admitting asylum seekers directly from refugee camps in Turkey.

Hungary accused the Luxembourg court of making an "outrageous and irresponsible" politically driven decision.

The Hungarian Helsinki Committee, an advocate for asylum seekers, urged Hungary to give refugees an opportunity to make their case for asylum.
