In new shift, France urges Syria transition without Assad

The evacuation convoy left the border area late on Monday to take about 600 ISIS militants and their family members to a territory the group controls in eastern Syria.

Hezbollah said in a statement that the US -led jets were still blocking the convoy of fighters and their families, which was stuck in the desert, and were also stopping any aid from reaching it.

The militants revealed the locations of the remains of Lebanese soldiers captured in 2014 in exchange for safe passage through Syrian government-held territory into ISIS-held area near the Iraqi border.

The coalition said in a statement, released on Friday, that during the month of July, it had investigated 37 reports of civilian casualties. It called on the worldwide community to intervene to "prevent a bad massacre".

The deal has angered Iraq and the USA, which launched airstrikes Wednesday to block the convoy's advance. Isil fighters are Sunni Muslims who consider Shia to be apostates - and thus deserving of murder. "If ISIS wants to continue to send known ISIS fighters and vehicles toward this convoy, we will continue to fight them".

"I went to President Assad.I went to Damascus", he said, adding that he sought to convince Assad to let the convoy pass through government territory.

"The Syrian state and Hezbollah have fulfilled their obligations to transfer buses out of the area of Syrian government control without exposing them", the statement said.

USA airstrikes on Wednesday destroyed a small bridge and cratered a road, forcing the convoy to halt.

On Wednesday morning, the US-led coalition moved to prevent the convoy from reaching its destination, cratering the road and blowing up a bridge leading to the Islamic State-controlled town of Bukamal on the Syrian border with Iraq, according to a USA military spokesman, Colonel Ryan Dillon.

In a statement on Saturday, Hezbollah said the coalition's warplanes were still preventing the convoy of extremists from advancing further east.

The Observatory said the fighting made some 750 people, many of them women and children, flee to areas controlled by the al-Qaeda-linked Levant Liberation Committee, a main rival of IS.

"The Coalition has not struck the convoy. The militants are scared the convoy will be bombarded as soon as it enters Deir al-Zor", the commander said, using a plural form of the Arabic acronym for Islamic state to refer to its fighters.
