Final Fantasy XV-Related Nintendo Switch Announcement Teased

Final Fantasy XV-Related Nintendo Switch Announcement Teased

Revealed at Gamescom by Square Enix, the Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition "retells the story" of the original game over ten downloadable episodes, with all episodes launching simultaneously and, as a bonus, the first episode will be free of charge.

Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition will release later this year for iOS, Android, and Windows 10 mobile. Given that Switch has been very successful and third-party devs are bringing their titles to the hybrid console, we would not be surprised if Final Fantasy XV comes to Switch.

During a livestream from the Twitch booth at Gamescom in which FFXV producer Hajime Tabata was discussing upcoming projects like the Windows and mobile versions of the RPG, he slipped in an interesting aside about other plans.

"I think a lot of people do want the mods as free as possible", he said, "and with as few limitations from our side as possible, so we are going to look into making that the kind of system we have for the mods, so we'll have to figure out all the technical terms around that".

Of course, the Nintendo Switch sounds quite a bit like "Twitch". True to their promise, Square Enix are trying to go all out on trying to make the PC version of the game the "ultimate" version- and if you need more convincing, maybe this new video will do the trick.

But would it work? There is just one console, and it is Nintendo SWITCH. A tick down in framerate is pretty much a sure thing, and we'd see some noticeable reduction in particle effects, draw distance, anti-aliasing, and textures. The game requires some beefy specs, so only time will tell if Square Enix can get it up and running on the Switch. Nvidia's GPU is fully featured, and the Switch is capable of punching high above its weight.
