NYPD Rally, Sing 'Black National Anthem' in Support of Colin Kaepernick

"The National Museum of African American History and Culture has almost 40,000 items in our collection", the museum's sports curator Damion Thomas told USA Today.

Colin Kaepernick is not now signed to an National Football League team.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture will feature items used by NFL player Colin Kaepernick when he protested the National Anthem at football games in its Black Lives Matter exhibit.

The unusual show of support from police comes as a second wave of protests, modeled after what Kaepernick did last season in the name of "black people and people of color", is building in the NFL.

The show of support for Kaepernick by some NYPD officers featured at least one high-profile guest in Frank Serpico, who arrived at the gathering.

The 29-year-old Kaepernick is now unable to find work with an NFL team after drawing controversy last year when he refused to stand for the national anthem before games.

After the rally everyone raised their first and took a knee in honor of Kaepernick.

When Al Pacino asked Serpico why he made a decision to take on the cause, he replied: 'I guess I would have to say it would be because...if I didn't, who would I be when I listened to a piece of music?' "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way".

"What Colin Kaepernick did is try to bring awareness that this nation unfortunately has ignored for far too long", said NYPD Sgt. Edwin Raymond, who helped organize the Brooklyn event.

Police officers in New York City are throwing their badges behind a polarizing figure-Colin Kaepernick.

"If Mr. Kaepernick is not allowed to pursue his career, then on September the 17th, at 5 o'clock, we are going to have the world's largest tailgate, and that tailgate will not go into Mercedes-Benz Stadium", Griggs said, according to CBSSports.com.
