Army launches strike forces against Boko Haram in north east

According to reports three female suicide bombers detonated their explosive belts in a local market and outside a nearby camp for people displaced by Boko Haram violence. At least 27 people were killed and some 83 were injured.

The report said that the woman blew herself up at market in the village Konduga, near the city of Maiduguri in North-Eastern Nigeria.

At least 80 people were wounded and were taken to the hospital in Maiduguri, a town about 18 miles away, he said. At least 37 people, including members of the team, died when rescuers from the military and vigilantes attempted to free them.

In Maiduguri on Tuesday, Ibrahim Attahiru, the army commander leading counterinsurgency operations said: "These specially selected forces with mixed equipment platforms are to achieve the conduct of long-range patrols and ambushes".

Almost 30 people were killed and more than 80 others were wounded in a series of suicide bombings near Maiduguri, the capital of Boko Haram-infested Borno state in Nigeria on Tuesday (15 August).

After being elected to power in 2015, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari made tackling the insurgency a priority, winning back swathes of territory and declaring that Boko Haram is "technically defeated".

Terror group Boko Haram is suspected to have carried out the attacks.

The attack comes on the same day the Military launched Mobile Strike Teams into the Theatre of operation to enhance operational efficiency.

Leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, must be apprehended either dead or alive, Nigeria Army told 2000 men it commissioned on Tuesday to hunt the Nigeria terrorist group's commander.
