The very first images of Bruce Willis in the remake of classic revenge movie Death Wish have been released for the world to see. While Willis' career is by no means stagnant, he's definitely no longer at the point where his name on the poster alone guarantees a box office hit. It's been awhile since Willis has played the lead in an action film that just about anyone would call truly great - and casting him also brings along all of his John McClane baggage, as that character has evolved into nearly a superhero in latter Die Hard entries.

In 1974, a movie named Death Wish, starring Charles Bronson, was released. That vigilante turns out to be Paul Kersey (Willis) a peaceful family man whose life is up-ended when his wife and daughter are the victims of a violent home invasion. "I wanted to bring Bruce back to that "Fifth Element, ' 'Unbreakable, ' 'Die Hard" glory and have him craft another iconic performance, and I really think he did it".

It's something that was on the mind of many filmmakers in the '70s, albeit few were as lurid-The Warriors, Serpico, and The French Connection are all films that grapple with urban crime in interesting, thoughtful ways that made Death Wish seem cheap even at the time.
