Two Jordanians have been killed near the Israeli embassy in Jordan

Jordan said Monday it was looking to question an Israeli security guard who killed two Jordanians at the Amman embassy compound, as the Zionist entitty insisted he had diplomatic immunity.

Israel and Jordan signed a peace deal in 1994, but the agreement remains deeply unpopular in the kingdom where many residents are of Palestinian origin.

The overnight incident is said to have been caused by a dispute between the embassy staff and Jordanian workers who were delivering furniture. Jordanian government officials were not immediately available for comment.

"The investigation is still in its initial stage and a broader probe has been opened by PSD investigators to look into all the details of the incident and the public prosecution department has been notified", the police said.

The employees of Israel's diplomatic mission in Amman, Jordan, returned to Israel late Monday night through the Allenby Bridge border crossing. Israel is sounding out moderate Arab countries including Egypt and Jordan in the search for a solution to the problem at Temple Mount that might allow the metal detectors to be removed while also guaranteeing security at the Muslim and Jewish sacred site.

Jordan's security agency confirmed that Jordanians had entered the apartment building for carpentry work.

According to the security directorate, a Jordanian carpenter attacked and wounded an Israeli security guard following an argument on Sunday. The worker and the Jordanian owner of the building were wounded and later died, the reports said.

The Jordanian had tried to attack him with a screwdriver at a residence used by the embassy in Amman, according to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians over the site have surged in recent days in response to the metal detectors, which were put in place following the killing nearby of two Israeli policemen.

The king said immediate measures should be taken to restore stability in the holy site and end the continued tensions, underlining the need to remove all security measures taken by Israel. This included a security guard who shot dead two Jordanians after he was attacked by one of them.

Muslim religious leaders have alleged that Israel is trying to expand its control at the site under the guise of security, a claim Israel denies.
