Red Sox pitcher David Price going on disabled list, reports say

Price's tumultuous season began with the starter on the DL with a sore forearm and strained elbow, though he avoided needing Tommy John surgery.

The Red Sox announced Friday afternoon that the left-hander has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with inflammation. Price himself did refer to the injury at least once as a "torn elbow", so this seems pretty problematic.

Price has sparred with the media this season, including a much-publicized incident in which he lashed out at Hall of Fame pitcher and current TV analyst Dennis Eckersley on the team plane June 29.

Price underwent an MRI on Thursday, according to ESPN, and will miss Friday's start against the Royals. Of course, if Price can come back in September, pitch well down the stretch and help lead Boston deep into October, a lot of his supposed sins will be quickly forgotten.

Price was on the shelf for the first two months of the season with a similar injury. In his last start, though, Price allowed six runs (five earned runs) on seven hits and three walks in five innings. He has made 11 starts with a 5-3 record and 3.82 ERA.
