Tillerson: 'I'm not going anywhere'

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Wednesday that he was "not going anywhere", denying news reports that he was considering leaving his post.

CNN on Monday reported Tillerson might be planning to leave over his continuing policy and personnel problems with the White House and the way President Donald Trump has been recently treating senior cabinet colleague Jeff Sessions.

When asked how long he plans to stay in the Trump administration, Tillerson replied, "As long as the president lets me".

"He does have the ability to go away for a few days, on his own", Secretary of State spokeswoman Heather Nauert told inquirers Tuesday.

"He just came back from that mega trip overseas", she added, referring to a trip that took Mr Tillerson to the Group of 20 summit in Germany, as well as to Turkey, Ukraine and Gulf countries. "He's got a lot of work". "He recognizes that. He's deeply engaged in that work".

Trump's public rebuke and tormenting of Sessions - the first Republican senator to back him as a presidential candidate - has reportedly anxious other members of the cabinet.

Tillerson's time away from Washington also comes at a precarious time for worldwide relations.

"(He) has been very clear he intends to stay here at the State Department", she told reporters.

Worldwide tensions over cybersecurity have escalated since the United States intelligence community concluded that Russian Federation meddled in last year's presidential election with the goal of hurting Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and helping elect Donald Trump.

Last Thursday، he met with the president، Defense Secretary James Mattis، Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford and other top officials at the Pentagon، before briefing members of the House of Representatives on Capitol Hill; meanwhile، his public schedule listed only "meetings and briefings" at the State Department.
