Microsoft confirms job cuts, but only in sales

Microsoft confirms job cuts, but only in sales

The reorganisation will hit the company's sales unit, reports say.

Microsoft now has about 50,000 employees and a 10% cut would mean that 5000 employees will be let go although CNBC has reported the number to be around 3000.

The proposed job cuts reveal that the positions which will be under the company's "consideration" will amount to less than 10 percent of Microsoft's total sales workforce.

New reports indicate Microsoft plans to cut "thousands" of jobs, with a majority of them outside the United States. "Like other companies, we also evaluate our business on a regular basis which might be in the form of skyrocket investments and deployment in other cases".

The job cut initiative is said to be based on the company's last week announcement.

A Microsoft spokesperson said in an email on Thursday that the company is implementing changes to better serve its customers and partners.

This week, rumors have become reality and Microsoft has announced that it's shedding sales jobs to focus on the cloud.

Microsoft has confirmed that starting today the company will be laying off some people and other people might be reassigned.

With rivals like Amazon and Google finding success with their respective cloud services, it's no surprise to hear that Microsoft wants to invest more in its Azure business.

Microsoft has notified some employees about the reductions, the source said.

The reorganization is being undertaken to emphasize more focus on their sales efforts to push its #cloud computing services product, Microsoft Azure. "From large multinationals to small and medium businesses to non-profits all over the world, organizations are using Microsoft's cloud platforms to power their digital transformation", Nadella said.

Now there are 1,200 staff working for Microsoft at their EMEA operations base in the capital. However, Microsoft insisted that it would repurpose employees as much as possible into new roles.
