The mayors of Pittsburgh and Paris: We have our own climate deal

Hawaii's governor has signed a bill that adopts goals of the Paris climate agreement, despite President Trump's announcement last week that the U.S.is pulling out of the global accord.

Hawaii Sen. J. Kalani English introduced SB 559, and said in the release that the signing of these two bills allows the state "legal basis" to stay in line with the Paris accord "despite the Federal government's withdrawal".

The bills' signage came with the support of four Hawaiian county mayors, who have joined hundreds of other mayors across the US in signing a commitment agreement.

"The selfish act of the USA does not only have grave consequences for the global efforts to protect the environment, but poses great danger to other areas as well". "Climate change is real, regardless of what others may say", USA Today quotes Ige as saying.

Hawaii's new legislation includes a bill that expands the state's plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to align with the Paris Agreement. He says he was motivated by the signs of climate change he sees daily in Hawaii: "Tides are getting higher, biodiversity is shrinking, coral is bleaching, coastlines are eroding, weather is becoming more extreme". It establishes the Carbon Farming Task Force, which would look at agricultural and aquacultural practices that would improve soil health and aid in carbon capture technology.

Immediately following Mr Trump's unprecedented move, three state governors created the US Climate Alliance which pledged to uphold their obligations under the Paris agreement. "And I just hope that we can cement the very best possible relationship with Canada that the United States could have". Unlike Elon Musk, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty made a decision to remain on Trump's business advisory council following the USA withdrawal.

Trump said on Thursday that the landmark 2015 climate agreement threatened millions of jobs and productivity, and that he would start a multi-year process to withdraw from the deal, which has been signed by nearly every other nation on Earth. And through C40 Cities, the global network of 91 cities, of which I, Mayor Hidalgo, serve as chairwoman, mayors representing 650 million citizens are pledging their determination to deliver on the Paris Agreement.

"The hostile policy of the USA against the DPRK has grown so unreasonable and reckless today that they are even coercing other countries to sacrifice their relations with the DPRK under the pretext of ensuring the U.S security".
