Metroid Prime 4 announced for Nintendo Switch

Metroid Prime 4 announced for Nintendo Switch

During today's Nintendo Treehouse Live event at E3 2017, Nintendo unveiled a new Samus Aran and Metroid amiibo.

Metroid: Samus Returns will be released on the 15th September. Samus Returns is a side-scrolling game that is sure to please the fans of the classic games. Plus the game will also be compatible with the Zero Suit Samus and Samus amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series.

Retro Studios is not making Metroid Prime 4 for Switch, according to Nintendo of America marketing boss Bill Trinen. All three games - particularly the first two entries, Prime and Echoes - are highly regarded and fans have longed for years to play a new game.

So far nothing is known about the game. If that's the case, it could be some time before we see Metroid Prime 4 actually hit the Switch. Like numerous other announcements during their show, nearly no hard details were shared.

Note that this is literally ALL we know for now. Again, no release window or other information was given yet, but fans don't have to worry about going another console generation without stepping back into the armor of Samus. Chances are Metroid Prime 4 should have a similar direction with some modern twists to the formula akin to how Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Functionality details will be revealed at a later date. Meanwhile, watch the announcement trailer below if you haven't done so already. No trailer nor gameplay footage was offered, with Nintendo only revealing the upcoming game's logo.
