Apple reveals watchOS 4 at WWDC '17

A Developers preview of watchOS 4 is available today, with the upgrade coming to Apple Watches everywhere later this fall.

The Apple Watch is evolving into an even more health-focused powerhouse, and the latest version of the watchOS reflects that.

The Apple Watch's screen will change its display whenever the user raises its wrist; the notifications shown will vary depending on the day, the user's active alarms, calendar events, news headlines, and any other app that's enabled to show notifications. This is essentially a smart selection of information and shortcuts which are relayed to your device based on your schedule, location, time of day and the rest.

Apple Watch's Activity and Workout apps, which provide fitness information, has added several features, including monthly challenges, which are meant to help users with their exercise routines. Finally, users will be able to sync the fitness data the Apple Watch collects with compatible NFC-enabled gym gear by simply bringing the wearable next to it.

Here's our review of the three new Apple Watch faces coming in WatchOS 4 in 2017. So now, multiple playlists can be synced including those recommended by Apple Music. Person to person payments and Apple Pay Cash will be available in the USA on iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, iPad Pro®, iPad® 5th generation, iPad Air® 2, iPad mini™ 3 and later and Apple Watch. The watch face uses machine learning to figure out which apps matter most to you and shows relevant info from Apple and third-party apps. The company promises that Siri will be proactive with the all-new watchOS, and Apple also introduced a new Siri Watch face. You can easily play music, rotating the crown to get your playlist running.

watchOS 4 is also getting a new Music app which will massively improve the AirPods experience. Apple has also been working on custom heart rate algorithms specifically designed for high intensity interval training.

The Music app has been redesigned as well. Use connected gym equipment? WatchOS 4 will also support native core Bluetooth. Attendees get direct access to Apple engineers, and can participate in a variety of in-depth sessions covering a wide range of subjects. Similar to the iPhone, the control center will also now have flashlight functionality using the display.
