Curry, Durant power Warriors past Cavs in Game 1, 113-91

In what had to be a shock to most everyone inside Oracle Arena, the Cleveland Cavaliers forgot all that in Thursday's Game 1 of the Finals.

There were a handful of times Cleveland was more focused on Curry and the 3-point shooters, but Durant made them pay with six first-half dunks.

"Our first half was sloppy on the offensive end, we were missing a lot of lay-ups", said Curry. Twice he has dished out eight assists. "When he had an opportunity he went downhill and it worked out well". He had six in the first half alone.

"I thought it was kind of ridiculous, to be honest", Curry said of the critics.

But this was far from a one-man show.

But their performance was not enough for Durant who said there is plenty more to come from the Warriors.

The two teams are playing in the finals for the third successive year - and Durant scored 38 points as the Western Conference winners comfortably maintained their flawless post-season record.

"Win one game. Now we look to Sunday to try to do it again", Curry said. Imagine, giving Durant and Steph Curry and crew 20 more chances to see the rim.

James was excellent, 28 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 assists, but he also had 8 turnovers. The Warriors tallied 31 assists and only turned the ball over four times.

Hey Cleveland, you're not in the East anymore: The Cavaliers blew through the Eastern Conference during the playoffs, going 12-1 on the way to their third straight trip to the Finals.

Still, the biggest problem for the Cavaliers in Game 1 was the Cavaliers. And that might be just the opening Curry needs to shine brightest again on the big stage after the struggles past year, when he shot just 40 percent in the Finals and had more turnovers (30) than assists (26). "So as long as I perform at this stage now and play my hardest, that's all I can ask for". His 38 points on 14-of-26 shooting did all the talking.

Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday night on the Warriors' home floor.

Ultimately, it's just one game. It was a certified miracle the Cavs were within eight points, but that was fool's gold.

But mindful of how the Cavaliers and Warriors went a combined 24-1 in the playoffs before colliding in The Finals, Silver says "we should also celebrate excellence".

Once the Warriors determined the Cavs were going to protect the three-point line at all costs it just meant open looks inside for Durant.

Their self-inflicted wounds continued to start the third quarter.

Durant won the first battle with King James. In fact the loss was number seven in eight Finals openers.

The teams are back at the Oracle Arena again on Sunday for the second match in the best-of-seven match series, before the action heads to OH for two games.

Durant hit both foul shots, and glanced Rihanna's way. Another key aspect to the game was Klay Thompson's defense.

Before the game, Steve Kerr and acting head coach Mike Brown talked about getting the ball in Durant's hands right away to start the series, and putting him in a position where he could attack downhill.

This season, the Warriors, the top seed in the Western Conference, are deeper and better than they were a season ago, even in the face of their win total dropping from an National Basketball Association record 73 in 2016 to 67 this season.

"He's guarded some tremendous, tremendous point guards", Brown continued. "You're not going to see insane celebrations".
