Anthony Weiner Pleads Guilty To Charge Over Sexting With A Minor

Abedin, a top aide to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton past year, separated from Weiner in September after revelations he had sent more sexually charged messages online.

The oft-disgraced Congressman appeared before the judge Friday in NYC and was charged with transferring obscene material to a minor.

He told the court that this fall he "came to grips for the first time with the depths of my sickness". In the courtroom, Weiner said, "I knew this was as morally wrong as it was unlawful".

Weiner, 51, shed tears in the federal court and apologized as he made his plea, according to TMZ.

Weiner said his "destructive impulses" have ruined his life, and said he has hit "rock bottom".

"He said, 'I have a sickness, but I don't have an excuse, ' which is like saying, 'It's not my fault, but I accept responsibility, '" Timpf said.

Weiner apologized to "everyone I have hurt", including the girl he "mistreated so badly". "I entered intensive treatment, found the courage to take a moral inventory of my defects, and began a program of recovery and mental health treatment that I continue to follow every day". "Weiner's conduct was not only reprehensible, but a federal crime, one for which he is now convicted and will be sentenced". "Yet I remained in denial even as the world around me fell apart".

Weiner, a Democrat who represented a New York City congressional district for more than a decade, resigned in 2011 amid a firestorm over an explicit photo he accidentally sent from his Twitter account. Weiner, who cried and apologized in court, surrendered to the FBI following its investigation. She said that Weiner, then 51, carried out a monthslong sexually explicit conversation with her in which he asked her to undress and sent her semiclothed photos of himself. Abedin forwarded emails, some containing classified information, from Clinton to her husband's laptop, then-FBI director James Comey said at the time.

She stood at his side in 2013, at a press conference after Weiner self-scuttled his mayoral candidacy by getting caught continuing to sext with multiple women.
